2015 was quite a year for us here at NxN. We had a full year, busy with new work, lots of change and excitement. Although NxN has only been live for a couple of months, we spent the entire year getting ready to launch. We moved into our new head quarters, a cozy loft with our own studio space built in, did some fantastic and exciting jobs for incredible clients, launched our website and got to know some really wonderful people in our local creative community a little better. Over all it was an incredible year and we've even more excited to see what 2016 has in store. To celebrate the new year we thought we'd revisit our top 9 posts on the fledgling @nxnphoto Instagram account. Enjoy!
#9- A lot of our time this year was spent getting settled into our new loft and studio and to be honest, we're still getting some details worked out. From building oodles of Ikea furniture to painting a million coats of Sugarcube white to setting up a new studio we had a lot on our plate. Most of the work is done however and we couldn't feel more at home here or resist sharing some vignettes of our new place.
#8- One of our more fun jobs of the year was definitely doing work for Umbra's #myumbraholiday campaign. We loved sharing our thoughts on holiday decorating and gifting and having the opportunity to do everything on the shoot from styling to photographing to writing blog posts from the Umbra journal.. This photo of Umbra's beautiful Plato bread board covered in goodies from Charcuterie Ratinaud was one of our favourites too, and it didn't hurt that we got to chow down after shooting.
#7- At the end of December we got started on a new series, sets of portraits of some of our favourite local bloggers. Our first session for this series was taken in the Halifax Public Gardens tropical green house. This location was a perfect escape from our cold Halifax winter.
#6- Our girl Yeezy is one of the more difficult subjects we've had to photograph this past year. She seems to forget her "sit stay" command every time we point the camera at her and with all those wrinkles and dark fur it can be hard to get a well focused shot of her. Naturally, we had to share this rare portrait of her and were glad to see her getting lots of love.
#5- The tropical greenhouse in image #7 was totally the perfect location to photograph beautiful blogger Love by Elle. We loved how she styled this shoot, the entire session was effortless. You can see more of our favourite shots from this shoot here.
#4 & #3- We loved the opportunity we got to do some work for Aritzia when they moved to town this spring. One of the highlights for us was getting to know the absolutely lovely Kayla Short of Short Presents. We photographed Kayla in the Halifax Central Public Library, a perfect location for the modern monochromatic look Kayla styled.
#2- Sometimes we like to take a break from editing by playing around on photoshop. We created this little colour palette from the tones in this aquatic image we took. It was made around the time we were brainstorming with Andrew Hunt, the amazing designer behind our identity, to come up with our NxN aesthetic.
#1- Everyone needs downtime and we're no different, but it can be hard for us to get away from photographing. Even when we're not working, we're often gathering inspiration from beautiful magazines and old prints of our own. We love sharing what inspires us and hope you do too!
So here we are, saying good bye to 2015. We have to say a big thank you to all the people who have encouraged us as we started out on such an exciting adventure, to the companies and individuals who hired us to produce images for them and to the lovely people following what we are doing. Here's to an even better 2016, which we can't wait to share with you.
