The past month has been busy. Like, really busy. Don't get us wrong, we're not complaining, we would always rather be busy than bored. But between commissions, collaborations, editing photos, updating our portfolio, archiving the past year's work, organizing and planning for some exciting upcoming projects and working our jobs as servers/bartenders on the side, we haven't had a lot of downtime. Visiting Brit of Brit Design on a lazy Sunday morning to photograph her beautiful apartment offered us some unexpected relaxation, not to mention some beautiful photographs and a whole lot of puppy love. What more could a couple of photographers ask for?
When we reached out to Brit to ask her to take part in our series focusing on Halifax bloggers, we knew right away that we would want to focus on Brit's house as much as portraits of her. We're suckers for beautiful interiors here at NxN and knew that Brit's apartment would be beautiful. The historic home has been renovated and brightened up with a few coats of white and grey paint. What really makes the place though is the combination of Brit's perfect styling with her husband Jeremy's handiwork. Every time we asked where a piece of furniture came from (we're always looking for perfect pieces for the NxN loft), it seemed the answer was "Jeremy made it". Seriously, cabinets, coffee tables, a beautiful headboard? All the results of Brit's designs and Jeremy's craftsmanship.
Not only was the place beautiful, but it was relaxing. Really relaxing. We'd met Brit before, at Aritzia's opening night event, but only in passing. When we got to talking to Brit, it felt like we'd known her for ages. A lot of our talk revolved around homes; decorating them, maintaining them, finding them, buying them (in the future). But we also talked about Brit's beautiful wardrobe finds, the joys and challenges of living on the east coast and favourite reads, like the Kinfolk Home. Oh, and we talked giant breed puppies, of course. And all this talking took place in a cozy warmth and tons of natural light. Relaxing, right?
Truth be told, we were a little reluctant to hit the road, especially after Norah, Brit and Jeremy's 4 year old great dane, started warming up to us. However, the real world outside Brit's magazine-worthy home was calling and we had to take off, but we definitely left with tons of decorating inspiration and these photographs which we're so excited to be sharing with everyone else. For more inspiration, DIY advice and more be sure to head to Brit's blog. For more photographs and stories, keep checking back here. We've got a lot on the go and are so excited to keep sharing.
