Being a part of our local community is a must for us at NxN. Although we love working with clients from near and far, there is something special about getting to know the people who are so close to us. To celebrate our recent launch we have started on a new personal project, doing series of photographs featuring some of our favourite Halifax lifestyle and fashion bloggers. This is a perfect way for us to get to know other creatives in our area and to collaborate on shoots where we have a bit of extra freedom on all fronts. For the first of this series we got together with the always lovely Elle of Love By Elle and we can't wait for you to see the results.
If you've had the chance to see our portfolio, you'll know we've had the pleasure of photographing Elle before. We first met her when we were photographing her for Aritzia's #nowhereeverywhere campaign and Halifax launch. It was a great gig and meeting Elle was one of many highlights. Elle reappeared again in our work when we photographed Damara Mossman's AW2015 look book. By now, photographing Elle feels like meeting up with an old friend. We catch up, talk about the city, about fashion and happen to be able to take some beautiful photographs amidst it all. So, it's no wonder that when we started kicking around the idea of this project together, we decided that Elle was a natural starting point.
It's pretty clear from a quick glance that Elle is beyond beautiful. In fact, it's something we can never stop saying when we photograph her, and we're sure she must get tired of hearing it. What photographs might not convey however is how kind, down-to-earth and approachable Elle is. She also manages to do a lot, and do it in style. Running her own blog, working as a merchandizer for Canadian company Aritzia, contributing to publications such as Flare and photographing her on-point looks with a great minimal style is a lot to keep up with and she makes it look easy. If you're looking for every-day style advice, you know where to go.
Now that you know a bit more about Elle, we also had to mention our location. For this set of images we wanted a location that was just as lovely as Elle and a little out of the current dreary winter Halifax norm. After a little bit of brainstorming, we had a lightbulb moment and settled on the Public Garden greenhouses. They were the perfect place for us and offset Elle's minimal urban style beautifully. And can we just say, that light though! Our ideal studio would totally be within an all glass greenhouse with tropical temperatures and cacti... One can always dream, right?
And that's a wrap! We hope you enjoyed these images as much as we did. Be sure to check back for our next feature blogger (a secret for now) and a few recent shoots we'll be sharing over the next week.
